When the doctor becomes holier than thou

Yesterday i had the worst experience of my entire life. And yes this is me venting on poor services but not just that-my character and person was attacked by an untactfull doctor who claims to be a peoples person.

First off she was already in a very bad mood when i got to the doctors offices. Not my fault and i get tht doctors in south africa are overworked (and underpaid-although this is a private practice ). I myself am studying towards becoming a doctor and i get the pressures associated with the field of work.

But screaming at a patient is not justified!

I have a type of inflammation in my wrist which at times makes it painful to write (especially if its for long periods of times) never mind zip up my jacket. My doctor knew this. Because of my heavy schedule i could not see her the last 2-3mnths but i continued my medicine use as i also have the knowledge to be able to help myself even if it was just to get through my semester at university. Im not saying im an angel and i take full responsibility for not going back-i did not have the time to do so and i told her so that i took responsibility for it but i needed help and asked if she could help me please. I needed a prescription for the medication she prescribed.

My examinations started 2weeks ago and i havrle been struggling with the hand as the exams are all between 1 &1/2-4hours long. Kind of a long time to write. But i push through as it is was is expected.

So yesterday i had 2 examinations of 3 hours each. After my first exam i was in so much pain i had to go to my doctor and ask for help. Like all universities when missing an examination it is required to give in a sick note/doctors note stating that you did go to the doctor and what the problem was. This is where it got very interesting.

You as my doctor, are not obligated to get to know me or ask about who i am or what i do. Heck you can just examine me and not even talk to me if you want. Its your choice. Theres nothing wrong in this manner of being. Some people are just like that. But if you make yourself out to be a kind person willing to listen dont shout at me incoherently about how i will be the reason you lose your license.

So im siting there at the desk telling the doctor if she can give me a redo for my prescription and a note and if not it is fine i will speak to my professors and explain the situation. She went ape**** on me for NO REASON. I did not force her to write a sick note down i did not pay her to write it out nor did i threaten her or her character in ANY way.

So i dont get why she went off on me having been nice and respectful.

So there i sit and she shat on me saying im a child tht can't think. All because i asked for a sick note. Made me feel extremely horrible.

She's like ja i should have come sooner and im full of **** so i told her no i wrote my other exam i just couldn't write the other. She said no its not her problem. I said doctor i didnt make it your problem im asking for your help on the matter. But if it is a problem please dont give me a sick note or medication for my condition then its fine. Thats when she got more aggressive.

Listen she didnt have to write it out but what she said next hurt me to the core. Said i am a child i should act like an adult and think for myself. Like what does that have to do with a sicknote? Did you not listen when i spoke?

All she could have said is, listen no i dont do doctors notes not shout about how its her job and she's the only breadwinner in her household and i will be the reason she can be taken off the doctors roll. That wasn't needed. I am not thw reason or scapegoat for your personal issues. If i was a minister or a child of an influential person you would gladly write out a hundred sicknotes not even thinking of your license as a doctor.

Some people will probably comment here and say she was rite some may not. All i know is a doctor does not conduct him or herself in a such a way- thats what we are taught.

So thanks doctor i wont name you or where you are from. I certainly will not go back. Maybe your practice doesnt need me so it's not a loss to you. But thank you for attacking my character i appreciate it truly.

I hope to onedat NEVER be the kind of doctor you portrayed to me yesterday.
