Made an appointment at Intercare for a medical exam on 4 March 2015. As we always do, we enquired on the consultation rate when we made the appointment. An appointment was granted at 17:20.

I paid the consulting fee upon exit, which corresponded with the quoted rate. No queries or disputes. I was hence surprised to get an invoice for an additional R144 afterwards- an after-hours surcharge. I immediately queried by mail- it is a matter of principle. We did not ask for an after-hours consultation, it was not stated as after-hours when the time slot was offered. And it was not charged as such when I paid on exit. So an afterthought to extract some more from the patient?

A month passed, I received another reminder to pay. Clearly ignored my mail. I called the reception, a 30 minute phone call, no resolution, they will get someone to call me back. Another month passed, another bill came. Called again, same outcome.

On 9 June I drove to the practice to discuss this. Practice manager stated it was the doctor's full right to claim this, and if I wanted to discuss this with the doctor, I would need to pay another consultation. WHAT????

We enjoyed supporting Intercare, but this is not on
