Extremely poor customer service, will never take my vehicle there again

My Renault Scenic developed a clanking noise when taking the foot off the accelerator pedal and then accelerating again. To find out the reason I took the vehicle to Tableview Multifranchise on 4 April 2018. I arrived at 07:30 and asked if a mechanic could test the car but was told this could only be done after 09:00 because of traffic. I explained that the car could be tested on their access road as the noise was audible immediately. Reluctantly the service manager got into the car, rocked it forwards and backwards a few times then diagnosed that the noise came from the gearbox mounting and required a part from JHB which would cost R1353.79 plus R700 labour (plus VAT), which I paid. When the part eventually arrived 2 weeks later and was fitted I was told that this would only solve half the problem as there was another part missing which would cost an additional R752.39 (plus VAT) and would be sent overnight. A week later the part arrived, was fitted and I looked forward to a noiseless vehicle. Unfortunately after a few meters the same noise was there again. I complained to the workshop manager and after consulting with the mechanic I was informed that the noise was coming from a faulty driveshaft which would be cheaper to fix by taking it to a driveshaft specialist. I find it ridiculous that I wasted over R3000 on a wrong and lazy diagnosis and that they did not have the decency to tell me on collection of the car that the noise was still there. The matter was reported to the JHB Head office who assured me they would look into it and come back to me. I am still waiting…

To be fair I initially sent this email directly to the parties involved (on 28 Apr 2018), however since I have not had a reply I feel it is appropriate that I post it online. Just because a customer services agent responds to a complaint does not automatically mean the matter has been dealt with satisfactorily… Hi Mike, Thank you your prompt response. I appreciate the feedback, however I still have the following issues: • The sound that the car came in for was still present despite all the repairs • I was not informed that it was still making the noise when the car was returned • The fact that it took so long to receive a part from JHB & then only half of it arrived The vehicle has since been repaired at Driveshaft Center where the very visible fault was indicated upon hoisting & the right-hand side driveshaft replaced. For a company that boasts ‘9 out of 10 is not good enough’ on a poster in their waiting area this just isn’t good enough… The very least I would have expected was a phone call to hear my side of the story. Regards, Nicola Tue, 24 Apr Multifranchise response: Good day The vehicle was not misdiagnosed as the broken mounting was shown to the customer. After further testing it was found that the inner CV Joint possibly got damaged due to the mounting that was broken and creating pressure on the CV with the excessive forward and backwards movement.
