Disgusting. Stay clear

Absolutely disgusted by this dealership. Now looking at the feedback on this site, it seems to be how they work.

I took delivery of a Mercedes Benz on the 11th of April 2017 from Multi franchise Boksburg (recently relocated to Menlyn). The consultant came to show me the car on the 5th of April 2017. At face value, it looked good. As a 2nd had vehicle, there were minor issues picked up at face value which the consultant said was going to be fixed.

I was told by the sales consultant that the car would be going in for a service and any issues picked up with the car would repaired and that when I pick up the car it would be like brand new.

The day I went to pick up the car, a few additional issues were picked up. I was advised to drive the car as it is still under warranty and report back to them with any additional defects in order for it to all be resolved at once with the defects noted at the dealership. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that I was dealing with a reputable brand and this would all go smoothly. I was terribly mistaken!

I took the car on the 11th of April and had to chase the sales consultant for dates to have the car booked in for the repairs of the stuff noted at the dealership and additional things I found wrong with he car. I had to escalate to their head office before the car was finally taken in on the 24th of April. Again, I had to chase for feedback and updates. When the car was finally "ready" to be picked up on the 4th of May, I had asked the sales consultant if ALL noted issues were resolved and she said that she and her manager had looked over the car and all was done. She explained that some body work and spare key had not been sorted out and that I need to take it back in to Boksburg to have it resolved. Although I was annoyed that the car would need to go back in, I agreed as I was under the impression that all other issues were resolved. Upon picking up the car, some of the noted defects I requested to be fixed were not fixed as promised! I again escalated to the head office on that day.

I then proceeded to request to have the deal cancelled on the 8th of May. That was when it got interesting. I was informed by their customer care that the deal will not be cancelled and that they have a right to repair. I was directed to the CPA. I questioned around how the dealership was compliant with the CPA on specific points to which I have had no response. They had the car booked in on the 11th and 12th of May again (this was supposed to be for the body work and spare key only). I made it clear that I had only agreed to the car going back in when I was under the impression that only the body work and spare key was outstanding. The consultant called the day before to informed that I need to bring the car back in for the booking. I made it clear at this point as well that I want the deal cancelled as this would be the 3rd time the car was going in for repairs! I received the usual apologies that everyone who complained seems to have received, yet no one would accept that I have the right to request a refund as set out in the CPA. I had even escalated to their regional MD.

The car sat with them from the 11th of May and the update I received on the 29th of May was that they are still busy with the car. I had laid a complaint with the MIOSA who, for some unfounded reason, has found in favor of the dealership as they submitted an invoice for repairs done dated the 1st of June! (Repairs which I had not requested they do as I had requested the deal be cancelled on the 8th of May). When taking the car back to them on the 11th of May, the engine management light came on! This was after the car was serviced on the 10th of April! In addition, the electrical work which they had done (01 June invoice) was not done through Mercedes. I called Mercedes and they said that they do not have approved outsourced service providers who deal with their electrical work. This means that the work done on the Merc does not carry a Merc warranty and will therefore be my expense should there be a problem with the repairs down the line.

I now need to escalate this matter to the NCC. I also need to pick up the car which I have been paying for over the last 2 months which had been sitting with the dealership since the 11th of May.

Since taking delivery of the vehicle on the 11th of April 2017 (today being the 2nd of July 2017), I have had the car in my possession for 22 days! The rest of the time it had been with the dealership.

I would not recommend this dealership to my worst enemy! It has been a painful and draining nightmare.

This matter was refered by our client to the Motor Industry Ombudsman, who ruled on the 23rd June 2017, that the dealership had addressed the repairs and that our client should collect and inspect the vehicle. We abide by the MIO rulings

So I make arrangements to pick the car up for inspection only to be told later that day that I should not come pick up the car as there are still things that need to be fixed. This is a joke.

After picking up the vehicle, on my way home, the engine management light comes back on. I am speechless and truly disappointed. With all that has occurred, I still have no right to cancel this deal. I say this again. Stay clear!

Good morning Mr N****e. My apologies for this. I have been in contact with the Ex Dealer Principal of Boksburg, who says he contacted you last Monday and you were to get back to him so that a loan vehicle could be arranged and for him to get the vehicle back to Mercedes Benz. He will contact you again shortly

Kind Regards

Just for closure: The deal was fianlly uplifted due to the assistance from Wesbank. It was a long and painful process but finally they were forced to take back their defected vehicle.
