Dealership & Consumer Problem

05 May this year, I purchased a second hand car from Imperial Select Fountains (Pretoria). Car selling price was R89 995.00. The make and model of the car = Chevrolet Sonic 1.4 LS 2012 model (Used). With the Deposit of R20 000, paid on the vehicle. (And fiancé application on the car was is provided by through Wesbank) Around May engine light went on. I addressed the problem to the dealership about the problem, they told me to bring in the car to the dealership to have it checked. I did take the car to the dealership. Waited for a couple of days. The car was fine for then. Few days after about couple of weeks the engine light went on again, and this time other components on the car started to give me a problem (ABS light, and braking System, Shocks, Backseat-Headrest). I called the dealership and reported the matter with them. The person who I was addressing the matter with the sales person by then. The engine light was the main problem which worried me the most. I did manage to take the car to the dealership and the car stayed with them a couple of days. Then 17 June 2017, the car gave me a mechanical problem, related to the engine. Engine light went on, car idling uneven. Same day (in the morning) decided to take the car to the dealership, I drove the car and left it at Imperial Select Fountains (Pretoria), explained to them the issue on the car. I waited a couple of days, I always followed up to find out how far they care with the vehicle. The car was fixed, and had the car with me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then on a late evening, Friday, 22 September (c) my car broke down, this time there was no warning light, and stopped immediately. I requested a tow truck and had the car towed to my place, and told the following week I addressed the matter with the dealership (Imperial Select) and made arrangement to bring in the vehicle to the dealership. I took the car to the dealership, and 28 Spetember 2017. They told me they will have a look at the car and the damagers. Few days after, I was told that the car had to be taken to North Auto Electrical (Pretoria North), because the dealership dosen’t do work on that kind of cars. They had the car taken to North Auto Electrical (Pretoria North), and around October 2017, I got contacted by North Auto Electrical (Pretoria North), they told me the damages to the on the car. The car engine was totalled and other small components. And in order for the car to be fixed, the car must be fitted with a new engine. The car was on an extended warranty, by SA Warranties, the only time I founded out was after I called the dealership and asked about warranty.

North Auto Electrical called me told me that the engine on the car needed to be ******** out and put out of the car, but the costs on the stripping will be on my account. And the costs were between R2500 and R3500. I gave them the go ahead, because that amount I was going to be able to afford and I knew that I would pay, because I wanted to get the car fixed. Few days, I was chatting with those guy from North Auto Electrical (Pretoria). I told them about the extended warranty which was on the vehicle, by SA Warranties, and the damage repairs will be paid by SA Warranties. Days passed, still on October I called North Auto Electrical (Pretoria North), followed up in the process. I was told that they need to replace the engine with another engine and the costs on the engine they can get is R35 714,28. And this was a second hand engine, with law milage (38 000 kilometres ) This became a problem, to me, because SA Warranties were only covering nothing more than R20 000. Overall cost to the repairs were adding up to R49 963,40. R49 963,40 including labour and service to the engine. And this left R29 963,40 hanging aside, which had to be paid by me, from my own pockets. I had to go and borrow money and pay North Auto Electrical that amount. The payment was made in 2 deposits, first deposit was made at ABSA Bank on date of the 07-November-2017, amount of R15 000 into North Auto Electrical (Account). And second payment was made on the 15-November-2017 amount of R14 000 into North Auto Electrical (Account). And Agreed that I’ll pay the remaining R963.40 when I pick up the car. On Friday the 17-November-2017 I fetched my car, because the car was done and ready for pick up. I drove the car Saturday 18-November-2017, on a afternoon same da, the car started to behaving in a different way, and 19-November-2017 decided that I should come back to Pretoria from Rustenburg, so I can be able to take the car to the dealership the next day, same day the car broke down (Similar problem as the one for the 28 September 2017) Through my car insurance, I had the car towed to my place in Centurion, since I was already half way, which costed me money from my own pocked, to the aamount R1200, due to extra kilometres. Next day 20-November-2017, I organised transportation through my insurance, except that I didn’t pay anything this time. I had the car back to the dealership (Imperial Select Fountains). Delivered the car with them, I told them the car just came back from repairs 2 days ago, and still it broke down. I can no more afford keep the car with me, I’ve wasted too much money on this car, and I’m still paying for this car, as much as R90 000 and plus the R30 000 I paid out last time on the last repairs. Now the car has broken down again, the dealership (Imperial Select Fountain) took the car back to the same place where the repairs where done previously (North Auto Electrical), and they are telling me that they will fix the car again, on they’re costs. And North Auto is wants to give me an agreement document to sign. The document states that if the car breaks down again, the costs are on me. I don’t think I’m going sign that document, because SA Warranties did the same to me, if the current engine in the car breaks down, it’s not covered under SA Warranties. I don’t think I can keep on paying extras ontop of what I’m already paying every month for the vehicle. Like I said, I already owe Wesbank Money as much as R90 000 on that car, and still I’m paying for the car. I just want the dealership to take back their car, because the same (Dealership – Imperial Select) they are not even willing to give me a trade-in with the same car I got from them, after them. They want to offer a trade-in value for R30 000 on the same car, I don’t think I can settle for that amount. If Imperial Select sold me that car for R45 000 or R40 000 May this year, I was gonna settle for the R30 000 trade in value.

I need someone who can help me resolve this matter, because I’ve been paying for a car and car insurance for a car that I’m not even using or have with me for almost 3 Months now.

Good afternoon Jerry

I phoned you yesterday and confirmed that I have received your complaint and forwarded it to the Fountains branch yesterday for them to look into this matter and get back to you once the DP had investigated the matter. As per our discussion and your complaint above, the dealer that repaired you car previously is prepared to repair it again at no cost to you

Kind Regards

Mike Dovey

Best regards,

JM

Good Morning, I fetched the car on the 05 December 2018 (Tuesday) from North Auto Electrical after their second repair. I've been using the car for local trips, and yesterday while I was at the garage filling in petrol, the car started making a cracking sound coming from the engine. I don't know what's causing the sound or making the sound. It seems there's loose bolts inside the engine which need to be tightened. I only had the car for 3days. I'm not happy with the service I've had with Imperial Select, and the people they choose to work on our cars. My concern is, what do we do now. Because the issues I've been having with this car have been going on for too long. The warranty (Sa Warranties) will not cover the costs of this repairs and North Auto Electrical will not be liable for the costs, and I won't spend any more money trying to get a this car fixed. I have a video of the faulty sound. I can send it to you. Please send ne an email so I can reply it to you. Regards Jerry Mathekga (JM)
