iKhokha: 'Cheaper' invariably comes with it's own issues despite the slick & ***y CRM
Hi, iKhokha payment is a new product, so i'm putting this out there in the hope that i can gather other user's experiences.
In my retail business, it's bothered me that i couldn't purchase a credit card machine from any of the big 5 banks, being forced instead to rent in perpetuity. The commission rates are also not competitive to each other. It feels like the banks agree the field of commission and stick to it. So i was thrilled after 7 years to not only find a competitive alternative, but also had the ability to purchase our own device. Everything about dealing with iKhokha feels so futuristic, slick and simplified. They really have put a lot into every aspect of their business. The device itself has been disappointing (maybe a first generation problem). We purchased the Shaker Duo. The hang time for some transactions can be up to 10min...which no customer should be made to endure. We've tried software updates and have been on the line to iKhokha support countless times without improvement. The device finally gave a 'System Error: Invalid Keys!' message and we've had to have it replaced. iKhokha are based out of Durban, so the recent unrest has slowed down their response time and we are into our 7th day without the device. While we offer EFT, Cash and Snapscan payment alternatives, having a CC machine is still imperative. I immediately ordered a temporary iKhokha terminal through Takealot, this time their Solo Shaker model, just in case the hang time was a model issue. This device lasted 24hrs before offering the very same system error message. Takealot will need to asses the terminal (3-21 days) before deciding if it must be replaced. That's 2 purchases with the same issue, both confirmed as not issues that can be troubleshot.
Do i buy a third iKhokha device or go back to my incumbent bank CC machine (which needs to be ordered)? Has anyone else had similar technical issues with their iKhokha Shaker Solo or Duo?
