Terrible service from iBurst Wireless internet

About six weeks ago I experienced problems with my iBurst modem. I went to the only iBurst store/outlet in Pretoria in the Doornkloof Mall. The attendant there could not test my modem because he did not have a cable. I asked him if I could buy another modem from him. He offered me a new contract and said it would take at leaset three days for all the paperwork. As I really needed to use the internet I asked him if I could purchase another modem for cash immediately. HE HAD NO STOCK. So he offered to have a modem the next day.

I went there again the next day to collect the modem. Getting home I discovered that the little pull-out antenna only received a 20-30% signal strength which was not enough to connect to the internet. I borrowed an antenna from a friend and was able to connect to the internet with a 90-100% signal strength.

I went back to the store in Doornkloof to buy an antenna. He had no stock but offered me an external antenna for R1 003.00, a few rands less than what I paid for the modem !

This triggered me to contact the iBurst help desk for an antenna. I told them that I require a similar antenna as what I had with my previous modem, about 20cm long blade antenna with a 50cm cable. About a week later someone from iBurst technical department phoned me to hear what my problem was. After explaining the whole story about the 20cm antenna again the guy told me someone from sales would contact me. This never happened.

So, I wrote another email to iBurst and received a reply from Bheki. After a few more emails between me and her I received an email from Donovan at the retentions department.

In his first email he told me I could buy the antenna for R399.00 and it would me mailed to me. I refused to have it mailed due to the poor postal service. I requested him to have it delivered to the store in Doornkloof and I would collect, and pay for it there. He then told me the store is considered to be a "third party" and it can't be done that way, they only deliver to the client directly !!

He then suggested to me to buy the antenna on a one year contract at R49.00 per month !! Or I can buy it cash but the process of quoting and payment would take three days.

So, after six weeks I still can not use my modem without borrowing an antenna.

This service is shocking to say the least.

All correspondence between myself and iBurst is available.

Theo Nell
