Worst Decision Purchasing from Hyundai
Almost a year ago (November 2018) I purchased a second hand Kia Picanto from the Hyundai Ethekwini branch. I paid cash up front and then proceeded to wait a month to actually receive the vehicle (despite being assured we would have it in a week). The vehicle needed a service as well as a number of fixes as listed below: • Cable to release petrol door • Broken button to open boot • Service book stamped • Car Manual • Mud guard behind right rear tyre loose • Spare key • Right rear window, front left window, left rear window – all not working correctly In my opinion, I do not believe that a vehicle should be on the showroom floor unless it is ready for sale. I had to make daily calls to the dealership, speaking to both Ashleigh (salesman) and Leon (manager) to chase the progress of the vehicle. I was **** to about work being completed and received different version of the situation depending on when I called and who I spoke to. To this day I am still not 100% sure of the actual work carried out nor trust the work that was carried out, I am quite surprised that this is how you allow your staff to carry your brand. The boot button was not fixed and simply had masking tape put over it. I received a service book from a different model of the car and one of the windows still does not work correctly. I accepted this at the time as I was beyond the point of frustration and simply gave up fighting, plus we had now been without the car for a month and could no longer wait. I recently took the vehicle to my trusted mechanic for a service and what has been uncovered is astounding and terrifying. They had to replace the steering rack as well as a sensor on the gearbox, both of which they have never had to replace on vehicles before, especially such a new vehicle. This has cost me R10,000!! They also noticed that the hooter was not working and upon investigation they found that 2 fuses have been deliberately removed (tool marks evident as they are in a hard to reach place). When these are replaced they show an error on the airbags which when investigated identified that the vehicle does not have a clock spring! I will now need to replace this at further cost to me as I now have no airbags or a hooter - I am sure you can understand what a critical safety risk this is. This leads me to wonder how the vehicle passed the ‘inspections’ before being released to me – is there a way that I can get the reports on this? From the service I received at Hyundai and all the issues I went through, I honestly believe that this was pure negligence. I should be reimbursed for these costs at the very least!! While I am aware that there is no way for me to prove that this did not occur since purchasing the vehicle, I know that the vehicle is driven by my retired parents in a 10km radius of their home and I know that we have not had anyone work on the vehicle until now. But this is blatant ***** (to sell a car that has such a horrific safety risk), and I am horrified that you allow this in your business. I purchased the vehicle from a reputable dealership (well, what I thought was reputable at the time) so I would have peace of mind and not have issues after purchasing the vehicle and certainly not be needing to spend such a large amount of money on such highly unlikely parts. I must just re-iterate that I am appalled firstly by the service we received while buying the car and now finding out how you turn a blind eye to safety risks just to sell a car. As mentioned before I know nothing will be done on this however it is my obligation to inform you of what is going on in your company. I will also use every opportunity I have to tell people on social media and by word of mouth what has happened so that they can avoid the horrific experience I have received form your company as well as the additional costs likely to be incurred.
