Useless extended warranty

I have been a Hyundai user since the company came to SA. Bought iX35 diesel 4x4 elite auto in around September 2016 and at that time still had 2 years warranty left. At time of purchase also bought a 2 year extended warranty. I have had no problem with vehicle until one week ago.

Vehicle taken in for a check prior going on an extended journey which is a normal procedure for me. One problem was intermittent ?turbo lag which had occurred on occasion only. Car taken in on Friday. On Monday this week called and told that turbo needed replacement at cost of R30000 and that the extended warranty only covered part and because car had just come out of original warranty Hyundai would make a contribution towards the R30000.

I took car car to Dekra for check and they could not find anything wrong with turbo but with caveat that they could only say for sure if they were to open the turbo.

The new turbo is on its way and I am going to have to pay R5500 from my pocket. The car has only done 75000km.

The issue is that the extended warranty is useless because I was not told that the turbo of car could give in and if it did would be an expensive item only partly covered by the extended warranty.

This means that should say a gearbox give in there is no way i would know the cost. I think this is a very unfair practice as it leaves me with a car with a plan but no comfort as to what a future expense would cost and be partly covered by the plan.

It is my opinion that the manufacturer should make it very clear to a customer the costs of repair of critical items like turbo failure. This, in my case was not done and I am now having to consider buying a new car which will have 7 year warranty.

Having been a loyal Hyundai buyer over many years I think Hyundai should cover the full cost of the turbo repair . Extended warranties as I bought are useless.

The car is just out of its 5 year warranty and if Hyundai turbos can give in at such low mileage this tells me that there is a failure of the part and Hyundai should address this.
