Service plan on motorvehicle expiered

I was never informed that the service plan on my wife vehicle will expire after 3 years. That now is Sept 2015. Ive booked a 45000 service for my wife's car at Hyundai Vereeniging on 5th October 2015 and was informed that they can only do it on 19 th October 2015 which was fine with me. My wife is driving the car and don't drive far that's why the km is low. On the day of the service they phoned me and informed me that the service plan had lapsed and that I would need to pay for the service. I do agree that it could be written in the fine print but if I had knew that it would lapse I would have made sure that the service was done before. I feel because my wife is looking after her car and don't use it to much are now penalised or forced to use the vehicle and drive excessive kilometres just not to lose the services which was paid for. What is happening to the money that was paid for the services ? Vehicle registration no BM15SBGP Pierre Hugo
