I could have lost my life

On the 8th of june i purchased a pre owned 2013 Hyundai i20 83500km on the clock from hyundai pinetown, i was assisted by yogeshen puckri. The day i picked the car up, there was no auto valet done. There were scratchs on the front of the car and my windscreen wipers were old. The bumper was not aligned.

I did tell him upon inspection and he told me that he will sort it out for me as there was no workshop attendents to the COVID pandemic at the moment.

There was faults that i picked up the next day and i advised yogeshen and the manager on the defects as follows per email correspondence . The breaking system was extremely weak, my tyres had flat spots, licence plate globes were not working, shocks were making noises and the car had a shudder after doing 80-100km. I immediately advised him on the issue and booked the car in.

The salesman sent the car for another COR and workshop checks, and i still did not revieve no documentation on the faults that were picked up as i asked for. The only visible thing done was i had new tyres. So my issues were not wrong.

I recived the car one and a half weeks later and after driving it for 2 weeks on the 20th of july after work as i turn into a busy freeway in durban CBD my car switchs off in the middle of a four laned road joining a busy freeway and refuses to start. I start to panic and put my hazards on while cars go speeding past me i try single handedly to push my car to safety.

After great effort i get to partial safety and try to start the car after 5 attempts the car starts and i let it idol for around 5mins before i take a chance and drive the car home i put my hazards and on and drive slowly.

While in a panic mode i realise that my spedometer and rpm meter was not working they were at 0 the entire trip i start to get worried about this car as this car was loosing power and as i went into 1st and 2nd gear it was a struggle to gain acceleration and it left like the car had repeated misses.

When i reached home i did an overall check and i see my passager side window was not working i think this could be an electrical fault and as googled the issues and saw the most common issue could be the computer box, which is extremely dangerous or the sensors were faulty. I immediately called the salesman when i got home and i asked me what was the issues i then explained, he said that i must test drive to car after a while, which i did, it seemed to work okay but there are some s****ing noises comming from the front and the car has less power, it struggles abit. He also advised that they will send a technition over tommorw. Which means i have to risk my life and drive this car to work for them to have a look at the car, again?

I asked for a curtosy car as i fear to drive this one, he said he will ask the manager, no response on that as yet.

I urge Hyundai pinetown to take these situations more seriously, driving is no joke especially if its a faulty car. Be more curtious to your customers, understand their issues and try and make the customer happy in every way possible, do not shy away from your responsibilities and your companys morals and values, value peoples lives as we all have families to look after. I am extremely dissapointed in the bad quality of goods i have received and i want my issue to be sorted in my favour as i have paid my money and i demand to get what i paid for.

I paid a total of R125k for this car, which i could have lost my life for imagine switching off turning into a freeway and having to muster the courage to push your car by yourself while having one foot on the break and the other trying to push the car while in panic to avoid getting knocked down or smashed into, i dont think anybody will do that for R125k.

I am still in shock on what happened today and i think Hyundai has a reputation to uphold in this regard, i dont think you should be selling defective or damaged cars to consumers its not ethical, be a humanitarian about it, besides trying to rob somebody of their money, things like this could lead to people loosing their lives. If the car is not up to standards please do not mislead the customer and advertise as prime stock beacuse its clear to see that this car has a defect.

I would like this car to be fully examined and tested in order to establish the fault i want to see documentation, accredited documentation as i deem this car hazardous. I will not let this happen to any other consumer purchasing a car. If you cannot detect the fault i will be glad to arrange for this to be done at my cost, but in saying that if this car is indeed hazardous you will be liable for the repocussions of that.

So please if you could reply to this message ASAP it would be highly appreciated

I await your feedback in this regard.

Kind Regards A unhappy consumer
