Hyundai Stellenbosch questionable integrity
I purchased my vehicle last year November. I had a great experience. This is my first car. I had just gotten my license in August. I got it precisely because I wanted to take my son to school.
Beginning of September I began experiencing problems with the vehicle. I have recently learnt this is called a clutch slip. Fortunately the car was due for a service. I described the issue to the service department. This was my first service so I didn’t know what to expect.
The car was returned the same day a few hours later. I asked about the issue to which the Hyundai employee advised that the car was fine I should not Rev it beyond 3000pms though. This was not alarming to me as I know nothing about cars and I kept to that. I also noticed that my cars petrol tank was at half , having filled it the day before. I did not complain. No one had called to say they had test driven the car and had to adjust clutch. They also stated they had never even opened the gearbox to see where the issue was in clutch even though what I had described was a clutch slip , I just didn’t name it. Had they driven the car they would have noticed it immediately as the panel beaters had.
I drove the car and experienced the same problem the next day. I kept driving under 3000. A week after I was involved in an accident. Again when that happened my car was doing the same thing. The insurer covered the claim the car was fixed. The panel beaters then tested the car and picked up the issue , this is when I learnt it was called a clutch slip. They confirmed it had nothing to do with accident and if my car was still on warranty to contact Hyundai. I did so.
Hyundai Stellenbosch told me to bring the car in. I picked up the car and attempted to drive it to Hyundai Stellenbosch. The clutch completely collapsed. Luckily I had been able to get to the yellow line just as it gave up. The car was towed.
I arrived at Hyundai Stellenbosch. They inspected the vehicle and then claimed that I was riding the clutch. I just learnt how to drive. I still use my handbrake which annoys other drivers cause I take long to move in traffic. I didn’t even know what riding clutch was I had to call someone to ask.
They advised me that when the car was serviced they simply adjusted clutch and found no issues. Which is what they documented on invoice. I advised it couldn’t have been fine as I was told not to Rev beyond 3000pm ( I had since consulted with someone about what this means). Luckily I also screenshotted a conversation I had , with their employee.
I spoke to a Bert and Elric who were so arrogant and rude to me. Eventually they said they would bring in the employee who said this to me. Before they did this Elric blurted that they would fire said person. Fortunately the employee was honest and advised he had said this to me having been told by a technician.
This meant that they had **** on the document. The car had not been driving fine when it left. They didn’t contact me to advise me the clutch needed to be fixed and it costs more to replace a clutch than to repair so they benefit. They said they would follow standard warranty process to which I advised this should have been done on the 9th of September before clutch completely collapsed outcomes may have been different. They refused to hear this. Though Elric admitted they had been negligent by not informing me. In turn to me this means they **** on the document. The clutch had not been fine as claimed.
They also gave me the wrong numbers at times for customer service. I am very disappointed. I am waiting for outcomes and they tell me they will only request parts once the claim process has been completed. Noting that they first tried to make as if they had registered my claim to a hotline, come to find it was only mechanical issues .
I’m grateful that the employee was eventually honest even when faced with ************. I am worried he may lose his job because of it.
