Hyundai prioritizes making sales over excellent customer service!
I purchased a vehicle (Hyundai i20, 1.2 motion, 2020 model) from a Hyundai dealership in Silver Lakes Pretoria on the 14th of June 2025.
A few weeks after purchase I noticed that the vehicle has a fault whereas it wouldn't immediately start the engine when I turn the key in the ignition switch.
I therefore reported this matter to the dealership when I noticed it was a recurring issue. It was something hard to explain, as after a few turns on the ignition the car's engine would start and not give any issues once ignited.
I also had picked up that the left park light at times switches on and other times it's doesn't... This brought me to the conclusion that the car must have an electrical fault.
Fortunately on one of the occasions that the vehicle was giving that starting fault, I was able to capture it on a video, which I later shared with the dealership as it was a hard thing to explain without evidence.
I therefore requested that they should take the vehicle in for inspection. I also requested for a spare key (as that was never provided), a spare wheel in good condition (as the one which came with the car was worn out) and that the button to lock and unlock the car needs to be attended to as it gets stuck(jams) when you press it. The car also has a hole/opening next to the button on the boot to unlock the boot.
The vehicle was collected by Hyundai on the 13th of August 2025, and I have ever since been told that no faults are found under diagnostics tests.
This is even more concerning, because this is a vehicle I had purchased from Hyundai, yet they themselves are not able to pick up a fault I have experienced with the car from since a few weeks of purchase (though it seldom happens) yet has been a recurring thing.
The matter was therefore escalated to the Used Cars Manager Mr Otto on 19 August 2025, after I have been calling in for updates Mr Otto never gave a resolution as it's a fault that could not be identified under inspection. I advised him that I refuse to take the vehicle back as it has a fault which they cannot identify, along together with the other issues I requested to be checked... So meaning I was sold a car with defects which they as Hyundai cannot resolve.
Mr Otto therefore said he'd escalate the matter to the Dealer Principal (Ms/Mrs Surprise Mahlangu) for a resolution to the matter.
I had a conversation with Surprise on the 20th of August 2025 around 12:30pm. Surprise asked what do I think the solution should be? I was perplexed by her question, more especially judging by the position she holds in the dealership, as I was under the impression that she was calling me to offer solution as the Dealer Principal, not to ask me what the solution should be.
I asked her to give solution from a management point to a dissatisfied client, but she advised that she would escalate the matter to Hyundai SA and that I would get feedback within 30 minutes from our telephonic conversation with a resolution to the matter and promised that she would have my warranty documents sent to me, as those were never shared to me.
I have not heard from Hyundai ever since.
I'm so disappointed at the customer service received.
Clearly all Hyundai cares about is making sales and not providing excellent customer service and protection of their brand
