Hyundai Plumstead Ignoring the Consumer Protection Act – 8 Months, Same Engine Failure!
I purchased a Ford Kuga 1.5 Ecoboost from Hyundai Plumstead in August 2024 for R270 000. Within four months the engine seized from overheating. Hyundai kept the car for five months, returned it with the same fault, and has since taken it back several times — every time claiming it was fixed. The same issue of engine failure and loss of power keeps recurring.
I’ve invoked my rights under Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) to return the defective vehicle and request a refund or replacement, but the dealer refuses and insists on more repairs. This violates Section 56(2) and 56(3) of the CPA and has now been escalated to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA Case #506893).
Hyundai South Africa and the dealer principal, Mr Junaid Daniels, have ignored all reasonable requests.
I now demand that Hyundai South Africa either: 1️⃣ Refund the full vehicle cost (R270 000); or 2️⃣ Replace the vehicle with another of equal value; or 3️⃣ Cover the full cost of repairs at Ford South Africa.
This case has caused months of financial loss, emotional distress, and safety risks for my family. Hyundai South Africa — please uphold the law and resolve this matter immediately.
