Hyundai Plumstead
20 September 2022
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
Dear Sir/Madam
I purchased a new Hyundai I20 2022 model at Hyundai Plumstead on 27 July 2022. On Tuesday afternoon 13 September 2022 while driving home, the car overheated and I pulled into the nearby garage. On inspection we discovered that the radiator pipe was completely loose from the clamp and we manage to get the clamp fastened to the pipe in order to get home.
I telephoned Hyundai Plumstead and was told to bring the vehicle in for inspection on Monday 19 September 2022.
The Service Department of Plumstead called and inform me that the Cylinder Head cracked and need to be replaced and it will take about 25 days for the part to be couriered from Korea. Hyundai does not have a courtesy car and I was left stranded without a vehicle which was no fault of mine at all. It is Hyundai Plumstead’s fault that the car has a mechanical fault. They sold a faulty vehicle to me.
I called my personal Insurance (Santam) I was told that their courtesy vehicles are only done through claims (accidents and theft) and not mechanical faults/breakdowns.
Currently I am spending a lot of money on transport to get to-and from work. I purchased a new vehicle from Hyundai Plumstead and barely 2 months later the vehicle have mechanical problems. This is unacceptable and Hyundai Plumstead staff I dealt with are unprofessional and not helpful at all. The Dealer Principal Mr Gcina Mahonga did not return my calls at all. I am not a car mechanic and trusted the dealer to sell me a new vehicle. I am scared of driving the vehicle long distance trips as this car has been compromised. I was supposed to have at least 4 years of hassle-free driving, which lasted only 2 months.
In the meantime, I sent an email to the Hyundai Head Office in Johannesburg. I received an acknowledgement of my email and no contact was made to-date.
I need some guidance to the next steps I can take.
Yours Sincerely
