Hyundai Pinetown (Hyaundai SA please intervene on the matter)
Please help me - I am dissapointed in your brand ! Your Pinetown dealer ship's after sale service is poor and they sell faulty cars ! .....your salesperson for the vehicle made a good amount of promises and assured us of the car's quality. He had given us his word that the car is clean and has no issues. However, despite his assurances of the vehicle's pristine condition, within a few months of ownership, we encountered significant problems. We noticed a drastic oil consumption issue. This was brought to Mr Waseem’s and Mr Clinton's attention telephonically in December 2023. Despite multiple attempts to address the issue, including communication with multiple phone calls and messages since January 15, 2024, this matter still remains unresolved.
The vehicle is primarily driven locally with a maximum amount of 20km per a day, after 4 months of owning the vehicle and after approximately 4000 kilometres, we decided to check the oil level for peace of mind. The oil level had dropped significantly, the level was sitting at 1 pint short. We then decided to use the vehicle on a long-distance trip and after having returned doing approx. ****m in total distance, we then checked the oil level again and it revealed a complete depletion of oil on the dipstick. This prompted us to fill and top up 2 pints of oil before seeking assistance from your service department.
Mr Clinton's email on February 10, 2024 indicated that your dealership will be responsible for this. They then advised us that we need to do 3 oil consumption tests to prove that there is an oil consumption issue with the vehicle. Your service department then conducted the three oil consumption tests with the last test done on Saturday, March 9, 2024 confirming that the problem still persists and with a conclusion that the vehicle is taking oil. The vehicle is currently at your dealership since Saturday, March 9, 2024, awaiting further updates.
Additionally, we express dissatisfaction with the handling of other noted irregularities listed below,
1. The unlock and lock button. Once the vehicle is switched off, it only unlocks the driver's door.
2. When the vehicle is switched off or switched on , there is a vent closing type noise emitting from the dash board , which sounds absolutely terrible.
3. Paint work on the rear right door is bubbling and spreading. Paintwork above the passenger door is chipped.
4. The rear right door handle has fallen off due to it being plastic welded on , the vehicle seems to have had an accident in this area since the work has been done so poorly.
These concerns were dismissed by Mr. Waseem during previous interactions as he mentioned that there is nothing that can be done about it. We were told to speak to Mr Clinton, the used car sales manager but he has been pushing us elsewhere which is totally unacceptable and unprofessional.
It came to our attention during the meeting that the service history of the vehicle, despite our repeated requests from before purchasing the vehicle and over the past six months, was only made available to us now during this meeting. We emphasize that access to this information should have been facilitated prior to the purchase of the vehicle.
When the vehicle was brought in for the third oil consumption test , during this meeting on March 9, 2024, Mr. Clinton made disparaging remarks regarding our thorough inspection process of the vehicle before purchase that we as the buyers spent 2 hours with the vehicle at your dealership checking it up. Such comments are unwarranted and reflect poorly on your professionalism and commitment as a Used Car Sales Manager to customer satisfaction. A customer requires time to make a decision as well as view other vehicles available. As per the dealer principal's word in yesterday's meeting, Mr. Clinton was kindly requested to furnish a formal written apology for his previous instances of rudeness and unprofessional conduct during our multiple visits to the dealership which has not been provided to us as yet. These incidents have regrettably tarnished our customer experience and must be addressed accordingly.
During the meeting yesterday, two options were presented by your team: either Hyundai undertakes the responsibility to rectify the oil consumption issue by stripping and repairing the vehicle at your expense, subject to our consent, and to also fix and repair the four irregularities mentioned above (Oil leak, Door handle, Paint work, Vent Noise and central locking issue), in this case we require the Dealer Principal to furnish us with a written assurance, delineating Hyundai's commitment to addressing any potential mechanical issues or persisting oil consumption problems post the vehicle's stripping and engine repair. This commitment should encompass rectification at Hyundai's expense. Or alternatively, Hyundai offers to repurchase the vehicle at its book value. We find the latter option to be inequitable and unacceptable. It is imperative that a solution be reached without imposing undue financial burden on us as customers.
We have paid a cash amount of R165,000 and had not even negotiated the price with Hyundai. If you claim to not know anything about this vehicle then please advise us as to how Hyundai inspected and evaluated the car when providing the client with a trade in value. The Dealer Principal is to provide us with the book value of the vehicle by today. This information is essential for us to make an informed decision regarding the available options. Based on today's call, you are now indicating that this will only be delivered to us by Monday, despite assuring us and giving us your word that it would be provided today.
Given the extent of the issues and the lack of resolution, we are demanding a full refund of the vehicle's purchase price. The numerous defects encountered are not indicative of a Hyundai Promise vehicle and we refuse to accept responsibility for issues arising within the first six months of ownership especially from a reputable dealership like Hyundai Pinetown. Following this experience and dissatisfaction, we will never recommend your dealership to others, nor will we ever consider purchasing a Hyundai vehicle ever again in the future.
We did not invest R165,000 cash to acquire a vehicle riddled with defects or for Hyundai to strip and repair the engine after just a few months of purchasing from your dealership. We urge you to address these matters promptly and professionally. Should you fail to do so, we will acquire the assistance of our lawyers and the consumer protection act.
Mr Rob , Please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss further.
