Hyundai not in business of making new cars out of second hand ones!

On the 29th September 2017 I purchased a second hand Mercedes 180 CGI with very low mileage from Hyundai Somerset West. After taking delivery, I reported to them that the car's park distance control was faulty and they agreed to have it looked at. So on Friday 20 October 2017, the vehicle was booked into their service centre.

The vehicle went back again on the 23 October 2017 and I eventually got it back on the afternoon of 24 October 2017. As I walked to my car, I noticed several scratches low on the front bumper and immediately called Michelle, the sales executive, to come and have a look. Michelle looked and then called her manager over. The Sales Manager looked at the car and immediately advised me that those scratches were there from the start as "he sold the vehicle to me like that!". I rep**** that I never noticed them before to which he rep**** that I would not have as the vehicle was parked at a certain "angle" on the day I collected it which would have made it impossible for me to see. He then continued by suggesting that I just take it for repairs under the "bumper to bumper" insurance which I purchased with the vehicle.

I left Hyundai pretty shocked and stunned and after an hour or so, realised that I would have to lie to the "bumper to bumper" insurers......because if I tell them that I bought the vehicle like that, they would most definitely not entertain the claim. This I was not happy and I decided to take the matter up with the Dealer Principal - Mr Wolf Kreft.

I called Mr Kreft that same afternoon and explained to him what had transpired and before I could finish, he advised me that he knows exactly which Mercedes Benz I bought and that it was he who had instructed his team not to repair the scratches prior to delivery as "he was not in the business of making new cars out of second hand ones". I enquired whether I should not at least have been made aware of these scratches to which he rep**** that he would call me back the following day......I am still waiting.

It is now 1 week later and still no word from Mr Kreft. I telephoned Hyundai Head Office and was promptly advised to report the matter to the Ombudsman.

Hyundai promises that all second hand cars undergo a "125 point confidence check" from the engine to the wipers and declare that "all issues are recorded and disclosed". I have to date not seen such a checklist certificate and / or proof that the damages were disclosed to me at any stage of our dealings.

I am 51 years old and have purchased many vehicles in my life - this was my first ever dealing with Hyundai and if this is how they do business, it will definitely be my last.
