Hyundai N1 Sold Me an accident damaged car
I have been a Hyundai fan for a very long time now. I sold my first Elantra 1.8 GLS with the Glass sun roof on over 400k on the clock. What an amazing car I thought and brand. So I bought the new Grand i10 Fluid when it launched as the Glide was not an option then. Needless to say I loved this car and it was perfect, however my family grew and with this I bought the i20 CRDi and man that is an amazing car. Over this entire time I have been telling my friends and bosses even about the amazing service received from Hyundai and the amazing cars they have. This even went as far as my previous employer looking at buying a fleet of i10 Hyundai for his company. Not sure if this happened as I left before the deal went through. But now I needed to get a bigger car again so I went with the next option of getting a Accent GL (Motion) and this is where it just went downhill and fast. After owning the car for literally 2 days I found that it had been in an accident. I emailed the dealership and they said I must return the car. They agreed it had been in an accident yet this was not disclosed to me on purchase. They said they were not aware of this when it was sold to me, how is that possible if the car has so many checks it goes through. And with the amount of over-spray from disgusting workmanship from the previous repairs place. They then took the car for over 3 weeks to get it fixed. This was due to the rear needing to get rebuilt of which they even sent me a photo of the car completely stripped down in the panel shop getting so called fixed. The car has also had a front end accident and has also been sent for this to be resolved. Needless to say this is still not perfect as it would appear the chassis is damaged as the wheel alignment keeps going out just after a short time period and the front right tyres are running smooth. The car is still leaking to a point that after the heavy rain falls I have received in Cape Town it looks like a splash pool in the boot. This has now caused the backing boards in the boot to collapse and the spare tyre is now going white with mold and the car is stinking. This again has been relayed to the dealership and the salesman. Heck I even took the car to them and showed them. All they said was we sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. An inconvenience is an understatement. Considering the long history I have with Hyundai and my family all owning Hyundai, this is the type of service I get. And I have so many images to show of this and even have images of where the salesman took a blue white board marker and marked out all the defects on the car for the third time for it to go back to the repair shop, who I dont think is even Hyundai approved.
This has all been going on now for over a year as the car was purchased in July 2017. And every time I told the dealership that I want a new car, all they said was sure we will get you out of this problematic car, however you will need to buy a new car and at a higher monthly installment as I will have a huge shortfall due to the car purchase contract only been a few months old. This would of been equal to an extra R1000.00 per month on my current installment. So how does that help me??????
Out of shear frustration now I got a legal councilor to assist me with typing up a letter and sending this to the dealership to enforce my Consumer rights and that was ignored even by the dealer principle. I then found out that he sent the letter to a Hyundai legal councilor as I had now involved an outside party. I am now still waiting after 2 months, the letter was sent to Hyundai on the 05 June and I am still waiting for feedback. This would never of happened if they had just followed protocol and replaced the car when they found it to be defective and they acknowledged the defects by sending the car away on multiple occasions. I am now also currently having to drive a wet car around breathing in the damp and mold that is messing up my chest, and needless to say dare I have my 2 year old or other family members in the car as they will also get sick. And when I told the salesman this was also the issue, he said he is sorry as he is also a family man and he understands the frustrations. So if he understands the frustrations why was this not already resolved.
This entire experience was had at Hyundai N1 City, they may have the highest sales in the country as per the salesman but man the service is disgusting. And sadly I am not the only one, when I was there for this issue on one of the many times another customer was there shouting and causing a scene, they had sold her a VW Polo Sedan with some serious issues as well. SO clearly this is the norm here.
The salesman was Jody Jacobs and the Dealer Principle was Fred Taff.
