Hyundai lies and deceits on pre-owned vehicles
I went to Hyundai Centurion to look at a second hand Staria that was advertised with a R60,000 cash back on the window. The normal price on the Hyundai website for pre-owned vehicles for this specific vehicle was R684,900 (without delivery and smash&grab). I asked the sales executive to give me a quote with registration, delivery, extra smash&grab and discount. He gave me the printed quote with the extra R60,000 discount at R635,007.50 VAT included. They had 2 Staria's with the same deal, one white and one silver. After checking the affordability, I then went through a 3 hour process to test drive the vehicles and do other checks.
I also enquired if the vehicles were in any accidents which the reply initially was no. He said they have passed a 125 point check, which he printed and gave me. I insisted on parts check on the registration number after which it was revealed that both vehicles were in accidents, one amounting to over R80,000. Since it was at a R60,000 reduced price I still decided to buy one of the vehicles. I emailed the sales agent my ID and proof of address. He confirmed all is in order and that he would email me the bank details to make the payment. Later the afternoon he called me and said he is sorry, but he made a mistake with the price and said the price is now the original prices as advertised on the site and that it already included the discount. He said he could only give a R5,000 discount at R679,400 without the extras. I requested to speak to a manager. He called me back. I tried to explain to the manager that I looked at a vehicle with a R60,000 discount advertised on the window and before I could go on, he interrupted me and said "Yes, I have T&C for that". I then said I received a quote and again before I could finish talking he interrupted me and said "Luckily he did not sign the quote". These are Avis "buy back" vehicles and I was at the Hyundai Hatfield dealership and they also did not tell the truth about the accident record. This was a big waste of time and very bad experience making me wonder what the rest of the Hyundai experience will be like.
