Exasperated service from a reputable car dealership (Hyundai Pinetown )
I purchased a brand new i20 from the Hyundai Pinetown branch on the 13/10/2017; I was assisted by Junaid Mulla the sales consultant. The car was released to me on that day without having insurance on the car. Shortly after obtaining possession of the vehicle I had noticed that the clutch was burning and hence it had a strange smell. I immediately, l contacted Hyundai Pinetown and was advised by, Junaid, that this was normal. A few days later I noticed that the vehicle had a shudder when taking off as well as numerous aesthetic issues such as the bubbling of the window tint and the gash on the driver’s door (November 2017). Trusting that this is a reputable dealership I was confident that a new vehicle will be provided to me as I was paying for a new vehicle in the interim .Nothing was resolved by the dealership and the car was returned to me. On the 19th of December 2017, the car was taken back to Hyundai Pinetown for investigation of the car shudder. I was assisted by Selina Gounder from the dealer’s workshop who advised that the car was stripped apart to determine the problem. She had advised that the clutch was to be investigated. On the 20th I received a call from the workshop from Mark who advised that they were assembling my car back together and that I should come and fetch the car as there was nothing wrong with the car. He also threatened that if I did not come to take the car he would call the bank and will have my car taken by the bank. Thereafter Hyundai Pinetown claimed that the car had the shudder due to driver negligence. The car had just over 700 km on the clock at that time. They also advised that the car was being driven by and inexperienced driver. My father drives the car that has his license for the past 30+ years. On the 27th of December 2017 I went to fetch the car. My dad had taken Ryan Rispin from the dealership to ensure that the issue of the shudder was resolved. The car still had the shudder; Ryan had advised that we should accelerate the car when taking off so that the car does not switch off. He further stated that I should trade in the car if I was not happy with it (a brand new car) , to trade in a brand new car after having it for just over two months. On the 28th of December 2017, I had taken the car to Hyundai Umhlanga to have it tested and ensure that the car was normal and safe to drive. The test in Umhlanga was conducted by Richard Flaunders, which the test had stated that something was wrong with the gearbox and that the gearbox needs to be taken out to investigate the problem. I then reverted back to Hyundai Pinetown to advise them off the confirmation I received from Hyundai Umhlanga. Selina from Hyundai advised that she would refer the matter to management. Mark Torrance the regional dealer principal advised that car should be taken back to the Umhlanga branch to have the test done again due to the discrepancies. On the 8th January 2018 the car was taken back to Hyundai Umhlanga branch. It was found that the car has a shudder on reverse and the 1st gear. I contacted Hyundai Pinetown only to be advised that I need to take the car back to them so that they could strip apart the car to investigate the problem.
It nearly 3 months later and I am paying for a liability that I am unable to utilize and this issue has not been resolved as yet.
The Hyundai Pinetown staff are a disappointment and a disgrace to the Hyundai brand. This is pathetic and unacceptable service from a service industry. I had previously had faith in this brand but after being pushed form pillar to post this has been my last resort to get some assistance from Hyundai Pinetown.
