A nightmare from Hyundai Pinetown Durban

Like all hard working consumers today, we want a reward for all the hard work done and after driving my vw golf1 for 10 years! I decided its time to reward, not only myself but also my family, with an upgrade. I thought it was time to drive a better car especially now that my daughter is growing up and we recently moved from Durban to Johannesburg, I thought, if my daughter's grand parents wanted to see her, at least now we would have a reliable vehicle for us to drive down to durban for a visit and not worry about my old vw golf1 breaking down on the way.

I prefered VW to any other brand, so I started shopping arround but our prefered VW polo 6 was very expensive, every where I looked and if they were cheap the car did not have a warranty or was not fully serviced, being the first car i will ever buy through finance, i wanted the added securty of the machanical warranty. I spoke to a friend in durban and asked him to keep an eye out for me and not long afterwards he told me to contact a certain person at Hyundai Pinetown, who might have some very good deals. So i proceeded to contact this salesman at Hyundai Pinetown. If I only knew the nightmare I was getting myself into,,,

I spoke to the salesman, told him my wife and I preferered a VW polo 6 but we want one which was fully serviced by agents and had a warranty. He told us to give him some time because he did have a polo coming in, he just wants to check it and see if it meets our request. After a week he came back to us with a 2014 VW polo 1.6 - grey in color, approximtly 41000KM on the clock, fully serviced by VW and still has a factory warranty... for R130 000-00! The only issue, was the car went through a "small" front rightside bumper and headlight damage, so i was told by the salesman. This was unbelieveable, my wife and i couldnt believe our luck. We wanted this car. We asked the salesman to send us pictures and videos of the car, since we in JHB we could not see it up close, I re**** on the honesty of the salesman, after all he is a salesman at Hyundai Pinetown. The car looked great, was a bargain, so my wife and i decided to buy it.

On the 21st of January I flew down to durban to pick the car up only to find out they charged me a delivery fee of arounf R4500-00 I queried with the salesman but he said it was a mistake. i was not even given the car with a full tank of fuel. With all the excitement of getting my new car i overlooked that. We signed the papers and i took the car away.

2 weeks after picking the car up, there was a winding sound coming from the engine and the back wheel had a wobble, i found this out when my wife was driving the polo infront of me and i was behind in my golf1. i contacted the salesman at Hyundai Pinetown and he told me to take it to VW. VW regased the aircon and changed the rim that was buckled.

1 month and 3 weeks later, at approximtly 43000KM on the ****, the cars engine broke as I took off in traffic. I couldnt believe it. when i opened up the bonnet to check what happened, there were pieces of the engines block lying everywhere. How could this happen to a car with this few kilometers on the clock?! I called the salesman again and expressed my dissapointment. Told him, he needs to take this car back.

I towed the car to VW knowing that this car is still under factory warranty and I was sold an extened warranty by the salesman at Hyundai Pinetown. I left the car at VW. Not long afterwards I got a call from the VW Workshop Manager, he tells me this car will not be covered by the factory warranty nor the extended warranty because this car was in a mjor accident before and the engine was damaged, also the engine was repaired by a NON RMI approved workshop, therfore vw will not cover the damage. This means this car was repaired in someones backyard! The quote from VW to repair the engine came to R120 000-00!!!

I could not believe what was happening! I contacted the salesman, he said i must give him sometime to figure out whats happening, so i waited... Eventually after I called him numerously he says that he cannot help me, this is my problem now. I opted to speak to his manager and the dealer principle but they all turned me away saying its my issue, I will have to sort this out.

What i dont understand about this all is the reason they(hyundai Pinetown) give me as to why it is my problem... The dealer principle says because of the sale being a facilitated deal, Hyundai will not take responsibility of anything that goes wrong after the sale. Hyundai Pinetown says, they merely, only, organised the finance. This car was sold to me by a person outside of Hyundai. What?! I did not understand... I bought this car from Hyundai. I was advertised this car by a Hyundai pinetown's salesman, I was in contact only with the salesman from Hyundai, no one else and now Hyundai says it is not there problem and not their car.

The polo is still at VW and they are charging storage fees, I cannot park the car at my complex because cars that are broken down can not park for a long period of time in the complex parking lot.

Up to this day, no one from Hyundai has contacted me, they do not reply to my emails. Do not return my phone calls. As they said this is my Problem now.

My question is, how can a big company such as Hyundai, allow their salesman to sell any vehicle of the streets to the hard working consumer, who thinks this car is from Hyundai and in the event of such issues arrising, they suffer no repercussions what so ever. This means a Salesman from Hyundai can sell a defective car for one of his friends and get away with it, scott free.

I am Deeply dissapointed, this was my first car bought through finance, a car I thought I was buying from a reliable dealer, a car I thought was going to be reliable and safe to transport my family but instead only lasted less than two months and has left me with what feels like a lifetime of regret.
