A bad investment

I bought a demo "Hyundai i20 2019" in 2019 from Hyundai Somerset West. I thought I was making a great investment in a good brand for a car that I could use for years to come. However, I was mistaken.

In the summer of 2022, my front left door handle broke off the car and I then purchased a new one from the Hyundai dealership in Brackenfell. Not even 2 weeks later the back left door handle broke off at the exact same spot (inside mechanism where ***** fits in). I then sent an enquiry over their website contact form and received no response. I then researched this issue and there were hundreds of complaints about the same thing and the design of the handle being an issue as both broke off at the same spot.

In November 2023, the paint on my boot started to crack off and a few days later the paint on my bonnet started to bubble up and then crack. I contacted Hyundai customer care and was told to take my vehicle to the nearest dealership for inspection.

I was then put in to contact with Hyundai Brackenfell. I took my car in later that week for an inspection and was told almost immediately that they would cover the cost to spray the panels with the paint issues. I then had to bring my car in again as they wanted to send it for inspection to see if there were any other panels with issues. I requested that my whole car be resprayed to avoid any further issues and was told that this is not an option - so basically any further issues have to be dealt with on a case by case basis for an issue that shouldn't even exist in the first place! My car goes in for an inspection, they find that the bonnet, boot and roof need to be resprayed. I take my car in and get it back +- 2 weeks later.

Needless to say, this week the paint on left front door starts to bubble and crack off. Again have to go through the whole process of contacting dealership, need to go back in for inspection, end up going through process of handing my car in to be resprayed.

Again my request for all the panels that were not resprayed initially to be sprayed now, is denied.

Why do I, as the customer have to be inconvenienced and affected by these factory fault issues?? It shouldn’t even be a request to respray all the panels, it should have been done immediately when it was picked up that the paint job done was defective. Each time I have to take my vehicle in for an inspection it affects my working hours and daily commitments.

If you search on the internet “Hyundai paint issues” you will see that it is a global issue with complaints that go back years and years.

A handful of my ****orkers are currently experiencing the same issues with their Hyundai vehicles from i20’s to SUV’s and I am speechless.

Coming from the service industry, the way this has been dealt with is ridiculous and unacceptable.

I now need to wait for each panel to peel so that I can go back every few months and be inconvenienced. I would like someone from Head office to call me and to explain to me why this factory fault is MY problem and why they are not prepared to respray my entire car.

Case by case resolutions do not work for me, unless you are willing to cover my time for inconvenience caused.

Be prepared to have factory fault issues become your problem as the customer.
