Introduction to the worst rental company (Spoiler - It is Huurkor)

Introduction to Huurkor 101

- Agent was late for our viewing appointment - The application form we were given had the wrong amount (despite receiving this in person) so we had re-do it with the revised amount being higher - The company doesn’t seem to know their properties very well. I highlighted safety concerns as the burglar bars were welded back together and they said there was never a break in (neighbours confirmed break-in). Note – this was before the property had added security but they didn’t know this. - ADT Security was advertised as being included (also confirmed via phone before signing) but when queried all of the sudden it was not and they denied it was ever advertised as such - There were no repairs done before we moved in, so we sent through a list of items to be fixed when moving in. From the total item list; broken basin, light fixture, bedroom door, garage motors and lock only the basin and light fixture was ever fixed (2 months later) - I followed up with repairs and they just said they’ll get back to us, even reaching out to contractors they confirmed all the info is with Huurkor and they’re wanting on them to approve the quotes - The above broken items and even existing fixture were given as reason for holding back a part of the deposit - Electricity was supposed to be our responsibility but after signing they said they will add water and electricity to our account, after giving notice our last month’s bill was 60% more and when queried they simply shrugged their shoulders - It took 7 emails, repeatedly asking feedback on our deposit payment before the person responsible responded. Only to say it would take another two weeks. - Two weeks passed and nothing, only after CC’ing everyone from Huurkor I’ve ever worked with along with the principals did the person respond to say payment will be done that day - It was quickly followed by an email saying they are withholding R4k for damaged and fixtures, despite these being as is when we moved in. One can only assume that they don’t even compare inspection notes. - IT TOOK 45 DAYS FOR THEM TO FINALLY PAY BACK PART OF MY DEPOSIT
