BEWARE: *****ulent Debt Collectors

I was unexpectedly contacted by HP Attorneys, who claimed I owed Nedbank R55,000 for an outstanding cheque account. Despite their persistent calls, I informed them that I only have a student loan with Nedbank, not an outstanding cheque account.

I requested a formal claim letter from Nedbank to verify their claim, but the initial consultant assured me they would obtain and send the necessary documents, which I never received. A few weeks later, I received an email threatening legal action unless I paid R2,000 to proceed. I refused to pay without formal documentation proving the validity of the claim.

A month later, another consultant contacted me. I repeated my request for formal documentation and was met with hostility when I inquired about the legitimacy of the claim. The consultant promised to provide the necessary documents by the end of the day, but I have yet to receive anything.

I continue to be harassed with calls and emails regarding this unproven claim.

I advise others to avoid sharing personal information or making payments to any "debt collection" company or law firm without receiving formal, verifiable documentation from the relevant financial institution.
