Refusal to assist with a warranty claim
We bought two Milex Air Fryers via Takealot on Saturday, 30 May 2020, which was delivered to an office address. Both Milex Air Fryers suffered faults within the first 12 months. After unsucceasful attempts to intimate a warranty claim via the Takealot app, I notified Homemark of my intention to claim on 7 June 2021. Now they are refusing a warranty repair as I am outside of the 12 Month period, which they calculate from date of purchase. I provided confirmation that the items were already faulty on 30 May 2021. Besides the fact that I will not purchase and or recommend any Homemark products in future, I will certainly approach online purchases differently seeing that manufacturers rely on the date of purchase to enforce a warranty as oppose to possession. I would like to understand what is the prejudice in being 5 days late with a warranty claim intimation following the purchase through an intermediary, with confirmation that the items were faulty? South African legislation promotes fairness to customers, this type of actions are most certainly frowned upon. Seems like all products can fail after 12 months with no recourse to consumers.
