I took out a Building insurance through Ooba, in conjunction with Hollard in conjunction with Guardrisk, on my first, house that I have just bought. I have submitted a claim to have my pool pump replaced, the insurance company wanted to know the cause of the pump failure. which the pool people put as "possible surge of electricity when load shedding takes place" emphasis on the "possible".
My claim was rejected. on enquiring as to why, they said " power surges are not covered by the policy.
1st, it was as the pool technician put it "possible" cause. 2nd. no where in my policy states that power surges are not covered, (Oh yes, storm, wind, thunder, lightning, hail snow and floods" are all covered, surely lightning and power surge is almost the same thing on damaging items of the house. 3rd, I have had a TV replaced by my house content insurance, due to power surge. but they won't cover the pool pump because the pump is a fixed asset. (understandable). 4th the policy states that if the item is damage due to animals biting, ants tree roots, ware and tare and now power surges, THAT will have to happen to the item for them to pay out, It seems they covered everything as not to pay,
I'm starting to think that this was not my wisest choice to use them
Very disappointed
will wait to hear there responce.
