Worry, worry with Hollard poor service

On 6 November 2016 my geyser burst. I contacted Hollard and they choose a service provide i.e. Flinkdink Plumbers in Pretoria. The service provider arrived and installed a new geyser. I was informed by the plumbers that they needed to go through my roof to install the geyser. This was a disaster, they broke through my roof insulation, cut on the roof beams which hold up my roof structure, damaged my facebrick tiles and I did not give them permission to interfere with the structural elements of the roof. When I informed the plumber on site, his reaction was that it was not his problem. I recorded this on the work sign off documents he had given me to sign.

I thereafter informed Hollard of the consequential damage and Flinkdink Plumbers. Hollard said they would send someone out (this was on 7 November 2016). Today is 11 November 2016 and nothing has happened. This geyser replacement was a complete disaster because of the damage at my home. The heavy rains started on Wednesday and thats when the damage got worse, my roof is leaking onto the ceiling, which is now damaged. Furthermore, the water got into my cupboards and clothes are spoiled. In addition, the carpeting in my room is wet and stinks. To make matters even worse, I have an asthmatic 3 year old and this damage is affecting his breathing.

We notified Hollard over 4 times this week before the damage escalated to this level, all we got was a claim number and no action. This is deplorable behaviour for an insurance company whose motto is "dont worry be Hollard" . I have reason to worry since my claim fell on deaf ears.

This is not the first time Hollard has given us poor service, last December we had experienced and electrical storm and our automatic garage doors were affected, Hollard was informed and sent through a service provider that requested a R500 excess, which we paid but never fixed the problem. Until today they are still sending someone out to retify the springs on the door and automation. We were told that eletrical and mechanically fixing of the doors requires seperate claims by the service provider.

Hollard service is terrible, their choosen service providers are questionable and *********** to say the least if they cant finish the job properly and cause consequential damages.

I got a call from Hollard now, and was told that Flinkdink plumbers needs access to my property to acknowedge what damage has been done before Hollard can repair the damage. This is utter nonsense, my problem is an emergency and I must wait for Flinkdink to acknowedge their mess up before any repairs is done. Hollard...your service is disgusting especially since every minute the damage worsens, if my roof or ceiling may collapse. I will not allow a plumbing company to repair the damage since they are not roofing, ceiling or insulation specialists. They couldnt even install a geyser without causing damage.

Randall Faulmann
