So Disappointing!

We have always taken out Hollard Travel Insurance (Comprehensive) at the advice of our Travel Agent.

This is the first time we have ever neeeded to put in a claim.

Delta Air Lines cancelled about 3,000 flights due to severe weather on the 5th April 2017. This ended up causing a backlog which lasted for over 5 days. We were caught up in this mayhem and were affected on the 7 April 2017 as we were delayed in Orlando (our flight acutually kept being delayed), making us miss our connection in Atlanta. Actually, ALL flights on the 7th were affected in some way or another (either cancelled or delayed). NO flight was spared.

We have issued Hollard Travel Insurance with all the paperwork and evidence except an official letter from the airline, and we receive this response "The link you sent is not adequate, as it does not state why your specific flight was cancelled (2 days after the initial weather delay on the 5 April).

We sent Hollard Travel Insurance the link to an article documented by the New York times which clearly states, "The delay, common during severe weather, lasted a few hours, but its effects LASTED FOR DAYS. The Atlanta airport is Delta’s biggest and busiest hub, and the delays left the airline facing a sudden, heavy backlog..."

In inference, our claim is therefore ONLY being based on this letter they require from the airline and no other evidence we have already submitted. I fully understand if our flight was an isolated incident, a letter from the airline has to be comp**** with. But when it's a 5 day, documented crisis (spanning from the East Coast of the USA to the Midwest of the country), all the video news reports (one being CBS) can be found on You Tube, its even documented on Delta's Twitter account... actually, just a quick Google search will show you the severity and extent of the 5 day situation in news reports from the various newspapers.

So in conclusion, yes Hollard Travel Insurance, if you need this information on a letter from Delta Air Lines, then you will get your letter. However, knowing when to use your savvy and initiative from claim to claim, knowing how to use a useful tool called "Google" which could have drawn you to the conclusion that it's so well documented, a letter is not acually going to say anything different as the facts remain.

So thank you Hollard Travel Insurance for not valuing your clients time to rather focus on their core business because you will not accept anything other than "policy wording page 20, Section 3.1, point "b" Travel Delay, Your Responsibility".

It is very evident that you are looking for a "loophole" not to honour a legitimate, heavily backed up claim. In conclusion, we in our personal capacity, as well as all future corrporate travel will be looking at using TIC.
