Shortchanging clients of policy claim payments

I have a funeral policy with Hollard Insurance.

I recently experienced a tragedy where my unborn baby passed away.

I went to Hollard to make a claim on January 26. According to initial information provided to me by Hollard, a payout of R10 000 is standard irrespective that its a still born.

Nowhere on their policy information does it state that a child must be born and be alive for a certain period before passing away in order to receive a full claim payment.

When I took out the insurance policy, I was informed by a Hollard Insurance consultant that each child receives a standard R10 000 cover. Their broadcast adverts also make the same statement.

I was surprised when I received a payout on February 2 of R5000. The payment was received late, after I had to fork out money out of my own pocket for funeral costs.

Because the baby was a still born, undertakers in Newcastle, KZN do not offer packages for such a death.

When I contacted Hollard Insurance asking why I was underpaid by Hollard Insurance, I was told by a consultant that it was because the baby was a stillborn.

I believe that this company provides inaccurate information so they can get someone to be a policy holder but when the time to claim comes, then they change their story.

Hollard insurance can't get away with committing ***** and dishonesty.
