Don't waste your time or money!

Bought a new home in January 2017 and joined Hollard Insurance. During June 2017 our town received >200ml rain and soon after our one bathroom’s floor tiles started to lift. Contacted Hollard in order to register a claim. Struggled to get feedback from them. Finally assessor was sent for inspection. One day I received a missed call from Hollard. I phoned them back, took about 15 minutes to try and find correct person. In the end I was told that consultant is busy, but my claim was rejected.

I asked what might the reason be and was told that according to Hollard it wad due to the tiles that was not installed correctly.

Sorry Hollard but that is a sorry excuse if I ever heard one. What if my pool starts to leak or my roof collapse? Will it also be due to incorrect installation and not covered? I will take my money somewhere else!!

Hollard finally sent me the official letter for why my claim was rejected. I copied the following from the received e-mail:

3. Exclusions Applicable to House Owners Section only

The following are not covered:

3.2 loss of, destruction or damage to any property whatsoever as a result of lack of

maintenance of the Dwelling, or any loss or expense whatsoever resulting or arising

therefrom;

3.7 loss or damage caused by any gradually operating circumstances;

Really Hollard? are you serious? Please inform me how should I go about with the maintenance of bathroom tiles, I would love to know what I should do.

The second part is even better. So Hollard doesn't cover any claim due to "gradually operating circumstances". So if I use my pool and something goes wrong it's not covered due to gradually operating circumstances?

Or if my house burns down due to a faulty plug, claim will be rejected because I used the plug, and this causes "gradually operating circumstances" as well as I didn't maintain my plugs!! LOL

Nope, sorry Lynne, will take my business to the real insurance companies, can't work with clowns.
