Disregard of the purpose of s/term insurance.

Via my broker CC&A I have for many years held a comprehensive policy. A section of this policy covered personal assets which states that jewellery valued under R25000 does not require a valuation certificate but does not state how items which were gifts should be identified. When I discovered a gold charm bracelet given as a gift and added to over the years, I reported it to my broker who informed me I had to have the item valued. This was impossible as it was a unique item I no longer possessed and nothing similar exists in the shops. Thus I could not claim and Hollard does not seem to abide by the FSB directive, and I quote 'What is the purpose of short-term insurance? The purpose of short-term insurance is to indemnify you against losses that you may suffer as a result of events such as accidents, crime, floods or fire. The purpose of short-term insurance is to place you in the same position you were before to the unforeseen event. ' No attempt has been made by Hollard to offer me a replacement item therefore defeating the object of short term insurance. Therefore I am warning people to take photos, weigh and measure any low value item item that could be lost or ******, if they are insured with Hollard. I am currently formulating the case to present to the Ombudsman.
