Disputed ownership of written off car
On 22/08/15 my car was involved in an accident and had to be towed by a truck authorised by Hollard as it was insured with them. It took almost two months for the claim to be finalised and communication during this period was poor or almost non existent. The car was written off. The car was insured as a 2013 model although it is a 2014 model, the payout didn't cover the outstanding balance . I am still paying the amount not covered by the insurance. I feel that it will be cheaper for me to fix this car as I cannot afford to buy a new car now. When I informed Hollard about my decision I was told that I cannot get the car because it belongs to the bank as it is not paid up. I contacted Nedbank and was informed that they are not involved in what Hollard does to the car as they have received the payment, all they need from me is payment of the outstanding amount. When I contacted Hollard with this information they told me that I have to buy the car from the company that will auction my car. I haven't received the assessor's report on damage to the car as I had requested. The policy doesn't state that Hollard will own the car if it is damaged and am unhappy about buying my car twice.
