disputed assessment of marine claim
My boat was damaged (pontoons) while moving it at home, the broker (Mccrystal insurance brokers) assigned an assessor. In short I strongly disagree with assessors report, as did the boat repair shop. (It seems to me as if this is a way to keep the brokers claims loss ration down and I ask how independent the assessor is?) Hollard came back with an undervalued assessment of the damage. Hollard and the broker want only to repair the damaged portion of the pontoon however according to the repair shop this can not be safely done and that they cautioned against it stating they will not issue a COF if they institute repairs only, their assessment is that the entire pontoon needs to be replaced otherwise the boat will contravene our marine laws and endanger lives. (report/photos available)<br> I understand the concept of betterment and realise that I may be liable for a certain percentage of the cost of replacement and that I accept. The settlement I feel is neither fair nor equitable, I have made contact with the broker but never get any response. I will withdraw all my business from Hollard if this is not settled amicably I am in the process of completing the OSTI ombudsman request form.
