21 Days later and personal belongings not replaced! I’m accused of ******** the insurance- imagine that!

I have had insurance on ALL my belongings, cars, household and portable goods etc for years now.

On 26 July 2018, whilst on work travel, my car was broken into and all valuable items including some money was ****** from the car. Included in the ****** items was my iPad, personal cellphone and my Iwatch. I logged the claim on the next day with claim number ********** . They first took a long time before they contacted me back. I was frustrated when the person I spoke to probed me like I was lying and if I could present clear evidence that my car was broken into.

I had to call in a couple of more times in the days that followed before they could assign an agent to look into my claim.

On 03 Aug 2018, 8 days later, an agent called me back to request additional information of which I provided this to him on the very same day. This agent is the private investigator by the name of Nathan Kunene. DAYS LATER..., he called me to notify me that all he needs to do is go all the way from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein personally to go ask at the restaurant manager I was eating at if the claimed incident is true. On the day that he was supposed to be there, I called him to follow up of which he told me he couldn’t make it. I HAD TO CALL HIM...

He went there 2 days later to verify the information as well as the police report.

He came back again, requesting for proof of purchase for all devices. Firstly, I’ve had the devices for years, and I informed him that I do not have the receipts, only the boxes are with me. He asked me to go to the shop to inquire. Istore can only retrieve information as far back as 2 years, so the receipt for the Iwatch was retrieved. The IPad was purchased for me in 2011 by my late mother and was only visible on my Apple profile and placed in lost mode, it’s still on my profile on Apple and I still have the packaging. The Huawei Phone was a personal contract phone I had about 3-4years back. I had taken the contract with 2 phones, the second one was for my wife and it is still functional and in current use to this day. I had not been using that phone ever since I started my job 3 years ago and was issued with a contract work phone. That was my personal phone which I had as a backup. All this information was told to Hollard of which they assured me that should anything happen, they would only need the boxes OR receipts of the missing items as proof of purchase.

Hollard asked that I blacklist the phone and provide an ITC number and that was done.

TODAY, is a shocker of an event. The agent called the Vodacom to inquire when last did I use the phone. Bear in mind, this was a personal phone that I had put away as I have a work phone. He alleged that people claim for items that are not even existing- I have the box at that time mind you and an ITC number for the phone. I have not kept track but Vodacom has updated me that I had not been using the phone for a while, which I already know. It’s a personal phone that o can use however I please. If I want to have it in my bag just as I had, then it’s my choice.

1. They knew from day 1 that I was insuring an iPad and a phone with only the boxes as proof of purchase in case of an incident 2. They now wanted me to make quotes for the replacement items in order to back up my claim. I am supposed to do the running around, what’s their job? What about the value of the insurance 3. I have insured my phone, why are they now inquiring on the usage of my SIM card??? Did I insure my phone or SIM card? I have provided an ITC number for the blocked phone, what business is it to them WHEN I had been using the phone. I well even could have not used the phone and placed it at home and it could have been burnt in a house fire.

The agent had the nerve that he is investigating on whether I am ******** them.

It has been 21 days of headaches to even get Hollard to try and attend to my claim. At this point I would not recommend for anyone to insure with them. This used to be such a great service provider but they have turned into money-hungry ****s just like many companies.

The matter is still open and I am ****ed off! It’s always a headache dealing with Hollard. What a waste.

Progress so far with this insurance company. I took out a policy and insured a certain value for my goods. My Ipad was insured at R16K and my watch at the same as that was the cost at that time. Hollard has come back to me and they are pushing for me to be provided with a smaller, older watch than I had and a smaller Ipad with lesser specs than what I had. This has resulted in a ridiculous payout amount of R11K. There is no way I am going to get an Ipad and an Iwatch for that price. The other thing is that they were trying to hide what they were going to replace me with until I had to ask. I HAD TO AS****!! How carnal and "*****" is that? I am more than disgusted with Hollard and their dirty game.
