Forced 10% Service Fee

Very disappointed with Hennie’s compulsory 10% service fee added on top of the advertised menu prices.

The Braai Block case [2024] ZANCT 66 found that adding a compulsory service fee on top of displayed prices contravened section 23(6)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act.

I happily tip for good service, but a tip should be my choice. If the menu price is R200, I expect to pay R200 — not R220 because of a compulsory service charge.
