Bad Service Experience

We had a very disappointing experience at Hennies in Lorraine, PE.

We ordered a bottle of wine for R175, as the wine-by-the-glass options were limited. After finishing our meal and settling the bill, we were stopped by the bouncer on our way out for taking the remainder of our wine with us—approximately two glasses left. He informed us that there is a sign stating that wine may not be taken off the premises. However, this was not mentioned to us by our server, was not indicated on the menu, and the sign he referred to was positioned in such a way that it faces away from customers as they enter, making it very easy to miss.

We found this very upsetting, especially as we had already paid for the wine. Management offered no comment or assistance and we were simply told we could not take it with us, leaving us with no choice but to forfeit what remained.

If this is due to zoning or liquor licensing restrictions, then it is critical that this information is communicated clearly—on the menu, by the staff, or at the point of sale—not when customers are already leaving.

Unfortunately, this poor handling of the situation has left a bad impression, and as a result, our families will not be returning.
