Piet (agent), gave the tenant short notice, six days before we were due to occupy 1st April. He signed a 'gentleman's agreement', to pay our damages, due to their neglect and incompetence, on 31st March, after speaking to his principal. Derick (principal), is the same person who confirmed, in writing, on 28th February, that we will be able to occupy the property on 1st April. Our bank confirmed that Harcourts failed to rectify the bond errors. We were eventually pressured and expected to accept an expired quote, with another bank. Connie (seller), failed to refund the occupational rent with interest. Damages incurred by us: Trailer hire, 1 meal, fuel, extra costs to move our belongings to storage, attorney fees, R50 i.o.u. for Piet's cigarettes, and 34 days kennels/cattery fees for our pets, which amounted to R22,165.00. Harcourts told the EAAB that "the agreement was signed on the presumption that the sale would proceed", even though it was signed without any 'conditions'. Jan failed to follow up on the matter, after assuring me that he would "follow up with franchises in the area". Harcourts Zambezi refused to honor the agreement to pay our damages. When I called the KZN office on Monday (who contacted me on Thursday), to ask for feedback, I was told that the matter has been closed, it is too long ago.
