Harcourts Equity
I had a rental agreement with Harcourts Equity Morningside/Berea. The termination of the rental was a very time consuming exercise. The agents and the manager had said that I need to give a moths notice in order for my rental deposit to be issued and had also said that it would take 2 month for my municipal deposit to be freed as they await an invoice from Ethekwini Municipality. In order for me to get my deposit I was told on the day of my moving that I had to wait for another month for my deposit when I was under the impression that I would be receiving it the same day since I have given a 30 day notice. It is now 2 months and I am still waiting for my municipal deposit. I am utterly unimpressed with the discomfort that has been handed to me by Harcourts Equity. I would never recommend them as rental or property agent to anyone.

On investigation into this matter, the delay in fact lies with Ethekweni Municipality and not Harcourts Equity.
As per standard operating procedures and as per your lease agreement, a municipal deposit can only be refunded once a final reading is done by the municipality concerned.
We cannot unfortunately instruct the municipality to take readings as and when we wish and therefore Harcourts Equity must wait for the final account from Ethekweni before releasing your deposit.
