DO NOT USE HARCOURTS WESTERN SEABOARD FOR YOUR BUYING & RENTAL REQUIREMENTS

I am disgusted & appalled by the service received from Harcourts Western Seaboard.

My husband & I signed a lease agreement for a property in the Table View area in Cape Town that was listed on property 24 by Harcourts. The estate agent that we dealt with confirmed that everything was in order. I even received a statement from a person in management to pay for the deposit for this property. We were told that the keys were ready for collection on 28th May 2025.

Firstly, the agent **** to us, everything was not in order. Secondly, the landlord hadn't even signed the lease agreement which the agent told us was done. Thirdly, the agent called my husband 3 days prior to the furniture removal company coming to collect our furniture that the landlord no longer wanted to let this property.

How did Harcourts let this happen is my question? Surely checks are done prior to clients receiving statements to pay deposits & first months rent?. Again this was all confirmed & I have proof thereof. Someone has neglected to their job properly & my husband & I are suffering from the consequences.

There are additional expenses that my husband & I have to incur due this issue. Storage fees, the change of address & now airbnb accommodation as we planned our entire move based on the information received from Harcourts.

I will continue to post on social media platforms until a person in senior management replies to my email with a solution to this problem. I will not & cannot let the Western Seaboard office get away with this. An apology & refunding the deposit & first months rent is not good enough. Saying that this is an unfortunate situation is a pathetic excuse. Own up to the issue that you have created & be held accountable. I will not let this matter go.

Hi Angelique, as discussed, this morning with you. I received an email yesterday from the Attorneys that were acting on behalf of Harcourts Western Seaboard, trying to remedy the situation after the fact. We completely understand the predicament you found yourselves in, especially due to the landlord changing their mind last minute, and how this impacted on your move and your experience with Harcourts. It has been confirmed that you were offered two alternatives by the office, to either find you another accommodation/place or refund your deposit. You opted for the office to refund your deposit, and this was indeed refunded to yourselves. Once again we apologize that you did not receive good service from this office, and the additional expenses you incurred due to this very unfortunate situation. Thank you for taking my call and we wish you all the best.

Kind regards,
Esme Colby
