Terrible - a ********** dream
<p>Having found a fridge repair service on gumtree I had the unfortunate situation of being conned for nearly R2000.</p> <p> </p> <p>These things happen and I took it as a learning.</p> <p> </p> <p>I was keen that noone else experienced these guys so reported it to gumtree. I included details of the advert and even found other adverts from the same user AS WELL as adverts from other gumtree users reporting them as ********** (wish i had seen those before inviting them into my home!).</p> <p> </p> <p>To my amazement 4 months on, 52 emails, highlighting over 50 accounts of these guys they are still advertising on gumtree. </p> <p> </p> <p>Gumtree are unable to block them from there own platform!!!!!!</p> <p> </p> <p>I appreciate they open new accounts, i appreciate they are clever con artists but if i can find them daily, easily surely gumtree can and can put in filtering and controls to block them?!?!!</p> <p> </p> <p>NO THEY CANT!!</p> <p> </p> <p>I wont use gumtree again as i have no faith in them being able to ensure that the people advertising are at all legitimate - surely there is a element of responsiblity on gumtrees side?</p> <p> </p> <p>Another annoyance is that having done all this to help them highlight issues with the system, to help highlight people that are ***** they</p> <p> </p> <p>1./ Refuse to give a phone number to call to discusss</p> <p>2./ Refuse to escalate to anyone senior</p> <p> </p> <p>Really makes you feel a nobody rather than someone trying to stop people using THERE platform to rip people off.</p> <p> </p> <p>BE CAREFUL OF GUMTREE THEY CANT STOP *****.</p>

Sadly, there is a certain risk when using the internet, not just the Gumtree website. We commit significant resources into a dedicated Customer Support/Trust & Safety team to keep the site as clean and safe as possible.
We rely on our active community of users to report individual listings to us so they can be reviewed and removed. If suspicious or ******* content is found on the site, we will remove it once we have been notified. We appreciate the times you reported the cases to us, with each case you reported we removed the ads in a timely manner. However, as you mentioned, these ******** are clever and change their ways very quickly.
We urge our users to report any suspicious activity to us at the help desk: *** or by using the “report ad” button located on the right-hand side of all ads.

I am surprised by this response.
Not once have you taken any responsibility for this and done anything proactive.
Yes the internet has dangers but what are you doing to protect your users? You know your system is floored and that people are being ********** so why not fix it?
Why is it down to users to report and not you to put in measures after reporting to proactively block?
I reported over 50 examples of this user and as discussed the content they used was identical.. surely not hard to find / block and put in protective measures!?
This response as the whole process is completely inadequate and I hope anyone reading this realizes how irresponsible you are.
