Gumtree Declutterthon: A Chance to Win or A Sucker for Punishment

As I am a frequent and faithful lister of products on Gumtree, I have recently been subjected to the "Gumtree Declutterthon". The emails I have received with my "special codes" were titled "Gumtree Declutterthon: Here's your code for your chance to win!" Well, from my experience playing the game, I have no chance to win!

Every time I access the game on Gumtree's Facebook Platform I have to fill in my name, email address, cellphone number & the special code I have been given. Every time. It's quite time consuming if you've done this a number of times.

I have now played the "game" on 35 occasions, if my calculations serve me correct. As those of you who have played will be aware, each "game" allows you a chance to select a single box on a large square containing 9 boxes. After checking my selection on being shown the result, I noticed that of the 9 boxes, 3 contain red crosses meaning you haven't won anything. The other 6 boxes contain prizes of up to R1000. Wow, a 6 out of 9 chance to win, you may think. Think again.

Every time I have played the "game" I a red cross has been revealed after my selection, meaning that my odds of winning are less than that you'd find in any casino... in other words, where I should have a 66.67% chance of winning every time I play (35 times, remember), I have won on absolutely none of them. Zilch. Zero. 0%!

Nearly two weeks ago I wrote to Gumtree via their customer support messaging system asking them for comment. As of yet I have received no comment whatsoever. I am not going to suggest anything with this review other than to say I must be the unluckiest person on this planet. Read between the lines if you choose.
