Beware: Don't assume that Gumtree will protect you from sellers who breach agreements

A seller on Gumtree agreed to sell me six chairs via Gumtree. Three days later, while I was still waiting for the seller to send her banking details I noticed that she had re-advertised the same chairs at a higher price on Gumtree. The seller stated that although she already entered into an agreement with me she believed that she could get a better price. Gumtree refused to delete the advert stating that I had not paid over money to her and that "Gumtree is merely the platform for buyers and sellers to meet". So don't assume Gumtree will protect you (or even simply remove ads) if sellers breach agreements and fail to deliver.
