On 3 February 2025, I advertised my ASUS Intel Celeron for sale on GumTree. The buyer, who identified themselves as Nosipho, expressed interest and agreed to purchase the laptop while contacting me via WhatsApp on 4 February 2025. They provided their address in Kempton Park and requested that I send the laptop via Aramex through PostNet. They assured me that payment would be made upon sending the waybill to Paypal. They insisted on using Paypal to pay me. I was told that they will make a payment to Paypal and then the money will reflect on my Paypal account immediately when I send Paypal the waybill. After getting the waybill from Postnet I scanned and emailed it to Paypal. Aand after 10 minutes I received an email from “Paypal” stating that my payment was being processed. When I asked the buyer why is my money not in my account, they said Paypal was waiting for the parcel to leave Postnet first they they will process it. But later in the day I received another email stating that my funds will be in my account at 12:45 today 06/02/2025. At 12:45 I received an email from Paypal that I must pay a service fee of 100$ first in order for my money to be paid. That’s when I realised I was ****med. When I contacted the buyer, they said they forgot you tell me about the service fee and that I should pay it first. I then asked if they ****med me and they said why would they do that? I have reason to believe that they may have used a false identity.
