Title: Excessive and Unauthorised Valet Charge – Avoid

Posting on behalf of my brother, Olof Vorster, who experienced the following:

I rented a Hyundai Venue from Green Motion Car and Van in Cape Town (7–13 August 2025, Agreement RNT-99291). On returning the vehicle with only minor sea sand on the mats, they deducted R1,552.50 from my deposit for a "valet" without my consent or prior notification.

The cleaning required was minimal and could have been addressed with basic vacuuming. If they had given me fair warning. I could have had the car cleaned professionally at a local service for no more than R300. Instead, they imposed an excessive charge without discussion.

The company, Green Motion Car Rental, which has acquired U-Save Car Rental, ignored my dispute and provided no opportunity to contest the deduction. This, in my opinion, is ******** and amounts to consumer exploitation.

I have lodged a complaint with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud and the National Consumer Commission.

I would strongly caution others before using this company.
