Serious Complaint Against the Government Employees Pension Fund

I am the Executrix of my late husband’s deceased estate. His sister, Patricia Rosslee, passed on in May 2020. Morris Anthony Alexander was the elder brother and he passed on in April 2020. He was employed by the Department of Justice. He nominated his 6 siblings as beneficiaries to his pension fund benefits in equal shares. Five of his siblings were paid by the GEPF with the exception of Patricia Rosslee who is now late and did not receive her portion of those pension fund benefits. She nominated my late husband and her only child as equal beneficiaries in terms of her Will. The amount due to her estate by the GEPF, is R270000.00. I am the sole heir of my late husband’s estate and ;therefore; have a direct interest in the payment of these outstanding pension fund proceeds which have been due to estate late Patricia Rosslee since May 2020.

I have tried calling the offices of GEPF for months unsuccessfully. All emails are ignored. I then sent a friend into their offices at 34 Hamilton Street in Arcadia, Pretoria on 3 consecutive days. She was told that the file was at Compensation House in Pretoria Central. These are extremely dangerous places for females to go to. At Compensation Housr, she was told that they could not assist her and directed her a GEPF satellite office in Sunnyside in Pretoria. My friend then went to the Sunnyside satellite office only to be told that they could not assist her then and that she would have to return the next day which was today, the 1st April 2026 to be allocated a ticket number. She was also told that tickets were allocated due to the large numbers of people who called at their offices on a daily basis.

Their offices open at 8am but my friend was told to be at that satellite office of the GEPF at 5am this morning and she was allocated a ticket. She travelled a great distance from Bedfordview in Johannesburg to Pretoria, purely to assist me. I live in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal and am not in position to travel to Gauteng. I signed a Power of Attorney in favour of my friend. My friend was at the satellite office until 4pm this afternoon and was told that the file was not at that office.

As a former employee of the Department of Justice, l am well aware that all government pension claims, queries and other related matters are attended to at the GEPF head office which is situated at 34 Hamilton Street in Arcadia, Pretoria.

I am fully aware that the public in general encounter immense problems on a daily basis with regard to receiving any assistance from the GEPF. This is absolutely unacceptable and immediate disciplinary action must be taken against all staff members who are either too *********** or plain lazy to assist the public. Sending members of the public from one office to many others is simply getting rid of those who call in for much needed assistance only to be either turned away or sent around Pretoria to other offices who have nothing to do with pension fund payouts. This is in fact very cruel because many members of the public reside quite far out from the GEPF and can barely afford they taxi fare to get to GEPF.

Can someone please assist me? In my experience, an Internal Ombud always rules in favour of the Organisation the represent so it will be a thorough waste of my time to lodge a complaint with their Internal Ombud.

I require the portion of the pension fund benefits due to my late husband’s estate most urgently. I am not on a medical aid and require complicated urgent surgery which I have to pay for all on my own. The operation is far too risky and complicated to be performed at a provincial hospital. I have consulted surgeons at the provincial hospitals.

I will greatly appreciate some assistance please and look forward to hearing from anyone who can assist me?
