GEPF does not care
I resigned on the 8th of April 2020, on the 18th of May 2020 I received an sms from the GEPF notifying me that they have received my documents and were processing it. I was informed that their turnaround time was 60 days. On the 15th of July 2020 I went to the GEPF office in Port Elizabeth to enquire about my pension payout. I was informed that they are busy with an investigation into my pension fund, because someone bought back pension and it was deposited into my pension fund. I asked them how long this would take, but they could not say. I went back various times and phoned the GEPF various times. Every time the same excuse, we do not know how long it will take. On the 24th of August 2020 I went back to the GEPF office and spoke to Nobubele Mnengisa, she informed me that the case had been finalized and gave me a signed letter that said the payout would be within the next two weeks. On the 7th of September 2020 it was two weeks later and still no money. I again phoned the GEPF, this time I was informed that it will probably be another week before I receive my payout, because it is back from SARS and just needs to be approved. On the 9th of September 2020 I phoned again, I was informed that it has been approved and they must only set the date for payment. On 10September 2020 I phoned again and asked if a date had been set, I was informed that it has not yet been approved. The consultant informed me that the previous consultant had given me the wrong information. How is this possible if they are working on the same system? Why must I suffer because of a mistake made by one of their employees by depositing someone else's money into my pension fund? How must I survive? Will the GEPF pay the interest added to my loans? I had planned and saved so that I could pay everything up till the end of June 2020, but we are long past that date. This kind of service is unacceptable, it is my money and I need it urgently.
