Disappointing Experience with GoSolr – Extra Costs and Poor Service

I would like to share my experience with GoSolr so that others can make an informed decision.

I signed up with GoSolr in 2023 with the promise of a hassle-free solar solution. Unfortunately, from the very beginning there were serious shortcomings. No site survey was done before installation, which led to the system being incorrectly specified and underperforming from day one. Despite being advised to sign a second agreement to “fix” the issue, the problems persisted.

Over time, I dealt with repeated technical failures: incorrectly oriented CT clamps, misconfigured charging and backup settings, frequent mains tripping, and solar panels positioned incorrectly. Numerous service calls, WhatsApp messages, and emails later, the system still does not work as promised. Financially, this has been very damaging. On top of the GoSolr subscription fee of over R10 000 per month, I still had to pay between R4 000 and R6 000 per month to the council for electricity, meaning I ended up spending more than if I had never installed solar in the first place.

Now that I am cancelling my services, GoSolr is charging me for two de-installation fees, one for each agreement, even though the second agreement only existed because of their own mis-specification.

My hope is that GoSolr addresses these shortcomings and treats future customers more fairly. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing, and I cannot recommend them based on what I have gone through.
