Google maps Detours you

Detour you to the start or all around the world just to end up driving 25km more then your final destination. Where Google maps surposed to help you with the quickest way is giving you detours. We had to go to a destination that was 20km away from our home and Google maps took us another route that was about 30 - 35km away from our home. And this is not the first time this happened. Cant we do anything about this? Google maps don't give us the fastest safest routes.
