GoDaddy is holding me ransom
I have communicated with a chat support member, Akhila T who were unable to resolve my issue.
I did not receive a renewal notice/invoice for my domain with GoDaddy. However, luckily I did receive a renal notice/invoice on another product that I have with GoDaddy. When I proceeded to checkout to renew all my products I have noticed there is a redemption fee for my domain.
Akhila T from support undertook to have a look into my account and reported back that according to my billing information my domain was due for renewal on 15 May 2023 and that is a ccTLD domain and therefore the domain's redemption fee can not be removed.
I then asked Akhila T if they can waive the excessive redemption fee of R1 464.84 as I was not notified and/or was not provided with a notice/invoice from GoDaddy for the renewal of my domain for this year.
I was then informed by Akhila T that if the domain is a normal domain like .com they would have been able to remove the redemption fee but it is a ccTLD domain and therefore they can not waive the redemption fee. However, GoDaddy did not provide me with a renewal notice/invoice and now I am being panelized and is being held ransom to pay the redemption fee.
I then requested for GoDaddy to send me proof and also provide me with confirmation of the e-mail address it was sent to for this year. Akhita T then informed me that they can not share any screenshots and invoices to my e-mail now, but there was an e-mail sent on 15 May 2023 however, the e-mail failed, but they can not provide me with proof thereof. I then requested for GoDaddy to e-mail me the e-mail failure report as I have always received their e-mails. Just to add to my complaint GoDaddy's notices/invoices are send with short notice.
I have also requested for the contact details of the manager at GoDaddy with the necessary authority to peruse the alleged e-mail failure. Thereafter, I did not receive any further communication from support. If GoDaddy can not provide me with proof of the e-mail it will amount to intentional misrepresentation with potential prejudice.
I had to go ahead and pay the redemption fee in order for me not to loose my domain. Shortly after I have spoken to support I have received an e-mail from GoDaddy regarding my domain that is in a pending deletion status. Instead of assistance they pressured me even more to pay the redemption fee.
I would like to be able to communicate directly with a senior manager in an effort to get a refund. Can someone please provide me with contact information of a manager and/or chief executive where I can escalate my complaint?
I am going to refer this matter to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman / Consumer Tribunal should my complaint and refund not be attended to.
