GoDaddy charging ridiculous "redemption fee" after giving insufficient notice of a failed billing.

Worst experience with GoDaddy today. My card to renew my domain failed when they tried to debit for renewal. I received a mail at 6pm last night (only saw it this morning), and when trying to load a new card at 8am this morning to renew and rectify this, I was greeted with a R1600 "redemption fee". Crazy. No warning, no notifications prior to this to advise that the renewal had failed, no grace period to make it right... just a R1600 fee or lose the domain. I called customer support, and they were just like... "well we sent you a mail on the 10th of February to tell you it was up for renewal and again on the 10th of March (yesterday) to tell you billing failed, so it's really your fault". How??? All they offered me was a 50% discount on the fee, still crazy. Their argument was that the registrar charges this fee, it's not them, so I have to pay it... which, as I discovered is absolute *******! I transferred my domain immediately to another provider, paid R90 for the transfer (including the renewal) and paid no penalties. GoDaddy is taking customers for a ride, and I encourage anyone who has experienced the same issue and they're trying to charge you a huge fee, PLEASE reach out to another service provider first. I subsequently found out that the registrar offers a 5 day grace period, so the story GoDaddy is selling is *******, and they're just trying to make money out of their customers. The fact that I could transfer the domain and only pay the renewal fee (the new provider would've been billed for the expiry fee if it was due, and would've passed it onto me) tells me that GoDaddy is spinning a story and unnecessarily charging customers for a fee they don't have to pay, and they're not warning their customers that billing is paid in enough time to avoid paying THEIR (not the registar's) penalty. Utterly disgusting, and I will NEVER to business with them again.
